The luxury vehicle segment of Honda, Acura, has been rewarding us with mechanical marvels since the ’80s. It’s MDX SUV, however, has only been around since 2000. The name MDX stands for “Multi-Dimensional luxury”, which aptly suits this three-row crossover. This Acura is the second-best-selling luxury, mid-size, three-row, crossover after Lexus’s RX, which can only seat five.
As a matter of fact, the MDX is the world’s first SUV to feature a third row. The Honda Pilot, which can seat eight people, one more than the MDX, shares its platform with the same. This most expensive crossover in Acura’s lineup covered the gap that was created by the body-on-frame SLX, which itself was based on Isuzu Trooper.
The first-gen Acura MDX’s (2001-2006) benefitted from Honda’s Global mid-size platform and sourced power from a 3.5-liter V6 with Honda’s renowned VTEC. Since then Acura has constantly grilled the MDX to make sure it remains as fresh as the day of its inception and has successfully managed to do so.
Now, in their 3rd generation, the MDX of today has evolved into much more advanced beings. The same 3.5-liter V6 that used to push out 240 hp in the first-generation MDX, now makes 290 hp. There’s also a 3.0-liter hybrid powertrain, which with the help of an innovative sport hybrid 3-motor system puts out 321 hp. So for a starting price of $44,400, the Acura MDX combines precise handling, luxurious design, premium interior and immense power with no compromises whatsoever.

Karan is an automotive enthusiast unlike any other. You can not have a discussion on cars and not expect him to join in if he’s around. But he likes listening to people more than sharing his expertise. That way he can find out more about the other person he believes. There is no bigger turn off for Karan than a person just blabbering about cars without cross-checking their facts. Karan currently owns a Camaro SS but would also like to own a Mustang Roush someday. His love for muscle cars runs deeper than the Grand Canyon.
