When Honda came into the US, people were quite happy with the range of cars and products that Honda had to offer. However, people were expecting Honda to put in a lot more luxury into their cars. Doing that, however, would make the Hondas more expensive than what they were retailing for, hence affecting sales figures.
So, to address this issue, Honda launched the Acura brand in the USA in 1986. With this, Honda could provide people the reliability and fun, that they would associate from a Honda but with the luxury on offer in a German car.
Acura brands itself with the tagline of “Precision Crafted Performance” and all their vehicles reflect that. The ILX from Acura currently acts as the gateway to brand Acura and was brought into production in 2012. The ILX replaced the RSX compact executive sedan.
What made the ILX even more important for Acura was the fact that it was the brand’s 1st ever Gas-powered Hybrid vehicle. However, Acura produced the hybrid version of the ILX only till 2015.
The ILX is based on Honda’s Civic sedan and is currently in its 3rd generation avatar. The 2nd gen ILX was in production since 2016 and Acura gave the generation change to the ILX in 2019.
Currently, a 2.4L naturally aspirated inline-4 motor powers the ILX. The motor is capable of generating 201hp @ 6800rpm and 180 lb-ft @ 3600rpm.
- Best entry-level sedan

Karan is an automotive enthusiast unlike any other. You can not have a discussion on cars and not expect him to join in if he’s around. But he likes listening to people more than sharing his expertise. That way he can find out more about the other person he believes. There is no bigger turn off for Karan than a person just blabbering about cars without cross-checking their facts. Karan currently owns a Camaro SS but would also like to own a Mustang Roush someday. His love for muscle cars runs deeper than the Grand Canyon.
